The Garden Council

The Garden Council, headed by the Executive Committee Chair, convenes to resolve critical matters that may arise from time to time. 

 

Members of the Garden Council:

The Garden Council shall consist of the Executive Committee, Row Captains, and the immediate past Chair. Current members are:

  • Cassie Ehrenberg (Chair)

  • Patty White (Vice Chair)

  • Greg Line (Treasurer)

  • Lazlo Beh (Recording Secretary)

  • Nancy Brokaw (Corresponding Secretary)

  • Kate Maskar (Row Captain, 1)

  • Ann Funge (Row Captain, Row 2)

  • Lindsay Hastings (Row Captain, Row 3)

  • Audrey Jaros (Row Captain, Row 4)

  • Ted Mader (Row Captain, Row 5)

  • Lisa Torrieri (Row Captain, Row 6)

  • Christine Jefferson (Row Captain, Row 7)

  • Kevin Parker (2023-2025 Chair)

 

Garden Council duties include, but are not limited to, issues pertaining to the by-laws and membership status. 

 

  • By-laws: When a review of the by-laws is needed, the Garden Council: 

    • Appoints the by-laws committee to consider proposed changes. 

    • Reviews the committee’s recommendations before presentation to the membership at large.

  • Membership status: The Garden Council may:

    • Terminate the membership of a member gardener who has not met membership requirements or failed to initiate clearing and planting by May 1. The Council may terminate membership for any other reason at its discretion.

    • Grant prior approval for Helpers to attend meetings or clean-ups in place of Garden Members.

    • Revoke Helper status, at its discretion. 

    • Grant requests to change a member’s status to Emeritus. 

    • Grant approval for a Co-Gardener to continue as a plot’s sole member when their Co-Gardener has left the garden. 

  • Plot inspection: The Inspection Committee must consist of three members of the Garden Council, including at least one current Executive Committee officer. 

    • Inspections are conducted to ensure that all plots and aisles are clean, healthy, and free of weeds, infestations, and hazards.

    • Inspections are conducted during the months of May through October.

    • Plots with serious infestation may be cleared at the discretion of the council or the Inspection Committee.
