Independent Task List

Please log your independent hours on the Independent Tasks List form. Be specific about what you did so we can plan for the community clean-up. You may log up to four hours total (including community clean-up) per month.

Completed between July & Aug Clean-Ups

• Cut back Virginia Creeper along north fence to make removal easier at clean-up. DO NOT step in plot near bees/pollinator garden.

 

Tasks to be completed any time

• STREET

  • Clear trash from sidewalk, tree pits, and front gate.

  • Prune suckers on street trees (learn about this at a clean-up first)

• WEEDING: To identify weeds, consult the Weeding 101 Guide.

  • Inside and outside front gates (be sure to hit the west side of the West Gate)

  • The Orchard and behind figs to west fence/wisteria

  • Perimeter of flower garden 

  • Rock Garden: south of composting toilet to (and under) cement bench

  • Remove Sophora seedlings and pick seed pods (DO NOT COMPOST seedlings or pods as they are poisonous)

  • Plot 2 has asked for help with weeding (and watering)

• BINDWEED CONTROL:

  • Snip or hoe the vines down to ground level once a week. (Forcing the plant to constantly re-grow depletes the energy reserves stored in the roots and it eventually dies.)

  • Smother with weed barrier fabric or cardboard that you wet and top with several inches of dense mulch.

  • Spray a mixture of undiluted white vinegar and a drop of dish soap directly on the foliage on a sunny day. Or pour boiling water directly over the weed and the surrounding soil radius.

  • ​​Also, never compost! Throw them in the trash.

• PRUNING

  • Cut suckers on street trees

  • Cut spent iris everywhere and chop for compost ​

• Finish the honey house (pressure wash and stain)
